"Traders"
Acrylic on Linen
36" x 36"
I wanted to take this vision I had and bring it to life through visual representation. This piece was more challenging as it's on a heavy weight linen material. With saying that, I'm glad I tried it because it feels like quality that will last 1000 years. I always aim for the highest quality materials as I love my work soo much and actually would build houses just to put them in, without sale.
Anyhow to the piece, this piece is based on a vivid dream I had connecting me to my ancestors. On this day in this dream I witnessed the first ever European trade ships arriving off the African coast. I felt like the sizing of this piece would capture the vast landscape that embody how the African safari is (Tanzania). There is no EMPTY space every inch serves a purpose to this story.
In these imagines you can see two African warriors, one being the Chief and the other being a scout/hunter. The Scout/hunter was the first one to spot the vessels, he than reported back to the chief and in motion you see that's what I painted -: the conversation between them.
